![]() Well, after much work, we've finally launched the site. Currently we're only offering service in Suzhou, Jiangsu, but that's changing quickly, so check back often. But, Suzhou is nothing to balk at. The historic city has sat at the core of Chinese history for two and a half thousand years, and features a number of reminders of times past for curious travellers. Often called the "Venice of the East", Suzhou is criss-crossed by an endless number of canals, and dotted with a number of beautiful gardens - collectively named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997 (with additional locations added in 2000. With its close proximity to Shanghai (now only 35 minutes on the new bullet trains), Suzhou is an excellent escape that provides copious amounts of authentic Chinese culture intricately interwoven with modern Chinese life. Additionally, only a stones throw away from Suzhou are a number of classic "water towns". These active towns are a great place to get a taste of the China you see in watercolour paintings and ancient poems. Still busily inhabited, you'll have to make your way past the locals to visit their numerous points of interest. An interesting note, it was in one such water town that one of the more scenic scenes in Mission Impossible III was filmed. Come see it for yourself - though we don't recommend being chased by unnamed agents of international organizations bent on your demise, but that's just us. |
